University Central Seminar on ‘World Hormone Day 2026’ held at BMU

Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) held a University Central Seminar titled ‘World Hormone Day 2026’ at the initiative of the Central Seminar Sub-Committee at the Block Auditorium on Monday, April 20, 2026. Emphasis was placed on maintaining the proper balance of hormones in the human body, knowing about the extensive effects of hormones on the human body and various diseases, and diagnosing and treating complex hormone-related diseases. In this important seminar, Professor of the Department of Endocrinology Dr. Sharmin Jahan presented ‘Endocrine Gems: Lesions from Most Challenging Cases’, providing guidance on diagnosing various complex hormonal diseases.
Associate Professor of the Department of Endocrinology Dr. Nusrat Sultana, in her presentation ‘Hormone Matters: Endocrine Health Across the Life Span’, said that hormones are essential at every stage of life. A proper balance of hormones is necessary for human growth, intelligence, metabolism, reproduction and smooth functioning of all functions. If hormones become unbalanced, physiological functions will not be carried out properly. Notable hormone-related diseases are diabetes, thyroid, height-related problems, infertility, and various problems of aging. Therefore, it is important to ensure the proper balance of hormones for a healthy life, including being disease-free. In his speech as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said, hormones have a profound effect on various systems and organs of the human body and many diseases are also specifically affected by these hormones. Doctors have to deal with this in their daily clinical practice. It is very important for the public and doctors to gain more knowledge and awareness about hormones. Under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Afzalun Nesa, Chairman of the Department of Virology, President of the University Central Seminar Sub-Committee, and moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Khaled Mahabub Murshed (Mamun), Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine, the special guest speakers were Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer, Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, and Registrar, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam. The speakers said that the effect of hormones on the human body is extensive. A proper lifestyle is essential to ensure balanced hormones. Hormone-related diseases must be diagnosed early and appropriate medical care provided. The issue of hormones deeply affects the human body and human life from birth to death. There is no alternative to maintaining balanced hormones to ensure the proper functioning of the human body.
