World Hemophilia Day is celebrated worldwide on April 17 every year. This year’s theme is ‘Diagnosis: The First Step to Good Treatment’. Keeping the day in line with this theme, on the occasion of World Hemophilia Day 2026, on April 16, 2026, a colorful awareness rally was held on the premises of Bangladesh Medical University on Thursday, at the initiative of the Hemophilia Society of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Hemophilia Society of Bangladesh and the Department of Hematology, Bangladesh Medical University. The rally started from Battala of BMU and ended in front of D Block. In all these events, emphasis was placed on diagnosis, ensuring free blood factors and comprehensive or integrated medical services. Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr. F. M. Siddiqui was present as the chief guest at the rally. In his speech, he said that although hemophilia is a long-term bleeding disease, if timely and accurate diagnosis and comprehensive treatment are ensured, patients are able to lead a normal life. He called on all concerned to work together to increase public awareness about the disease, so that proper treatment and service can be ensured for hemophilia patients. BMU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam and others were present at the rally. Also present at the rally were Professor Dr. Amin Lutful Kabir, President of the Hematology Society of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Md. Rafiquzzaman Khan, Chairman of the Hematology Department, Bangladesh Medical University, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud, General Secretary of the Society, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Monirul Islam, Scientific Affairs Secretary, and Associate Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Mosabbir, Publicity and Publication Secretary. Representatives of the Hemophilia Society of Bangladesh and other leaders of related organizations were also present. The speakers expressed their hope that modern treatment for hemophilia will gradually reach the people of all walks of life in the country. They also mentioned that there are still many unregistered hemophilia patients in the country, who need to be identified and brought under treatment as soon as possible. Hemophilia patients and their guardians also spoke at the event. They urged all concerned to make the treatment of the disease more accessible and affordable. In addition, prominent hematologists, resident doctors and students from various government and private medical colleges and hospitals of the country participated in the rally. The rally aimed to increase public awareness about hemophilia, provide information about the early symptoms of the disease, and inform the public about modern treatment and management. In addition, there was a call for increasing social sympathy and support for hemophilia patients. At the end of the rally, the cover of the book ‘National Guidelines for Management of Hemophilia’, prepared by the joint initiative of the Hematology Society of Bangladesh, Hemophilia Society of Bangladesh, and the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was unveiled.
