A mobile court has seized 800 liters of fuel oil illegally stored in Jhikargachha in Jessore. The oil was seized during a raid in Matikomra village of Hazirbagh union of the upazila on Tuesday (April 14) night. A person named Abdul Jabbar involved in the incident was arrested at that time.
According to mobile court sources, based on a secret tip-off, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Saffat Ara Sayeed conducted a raid in Matikomra village on Tuesday night. A total of 800 liters of fuel oil kept in 4 barrels was recovered from Abdul Jabbar’s custody during the raid.
Later, accused Abdul Jabbar confessed to his crime and was fined Tk 60,000 under Section 13 for violating Section 5 of the ‘Essential Commodities Control Act, 1956’. The court sentenced him to 15 days of simple imprisonment for non-payment of the fine.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saffat Ara Sayeed said that the seized 800 liters of oil have been kept in the custody of Tag Officer and Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Hasanuzzaman Parag of the nearby Mofiz Filling Station. The government has ordered to sell this oil to the common people at the price fixed and deposit the money in the government treasury. The officer also said that such operations will continue for the benefit of the public.
