The leaders of the Movement for Justice of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) met with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui, at his office on Monday, April 13, 2026. At that time, the Convener of the Movement for Justice of BMU, Dr. Muh. Shahidul Haque and Member Secretary Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal presented a written memorandum containing 20-point demands to the Honorable Vice Chancellor. At that time, the Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of BMU, Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howalder, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Deputy Registrar Sabina Yasmin, Deputy Controller of Examinations and Private Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor Md. Lutfar Rahman, among others, were present. The memorandum states that teachers, doctors, nurses and employees working at BMU have been tortured, oppressed, harassed, dismissed and deprived of their fair rights by the fascist government for the past 16-17 years. Despite their qualifications, they have been humiliated in society by not being promoted, promoted, improved in grade and made permanent. They have been forced to resign by threats due to political differences. The 20-point demands include that no one from the previous fascist government can hold any administrative or academic position or additional responsibility, that no one associated with fascists can be in any appointment, promotion, examination process or investigation committee of the university, that action be taken against those involved in the arson attack at the university, that action be taken against the university’s medical team involved in the irregularities in the treatment of the former successful Prime Minister and uncompromising national leader, the late Begum Khaleda Zia, that action be taken against all controversial appointments from 2029 to 2024, that grade improvement be taken and, where applicable, promotion be taken quickly to ensure the professional rights of medical officers appointed from 2003 to 2006, that effective steps be taken to take into account the doctors deprived of postgraduate courses in medical higher education programs and that discrimination be removed, that housing be ensured for those working at the university, that financial compensation be provided to those illegally dismissed, demoted and retired in various ways from 2009 to 2024 and that post-graduation be carried out according to merit. Reinstatement in jobs with promotions, ensuring the rights of those who have been discriminated against in various ways, including compensation, properly supervising the cases filed by the university in the wake of the July 24 movement, immediately changing the previous nameplates existing in various places of the university and establishing the new name of the university, clearly declaring the university’s position against fascist and authoritarian attitudes, introducing the July Martyr Scholarship for students and establishing the July Memorial, making an infrastructural master plan and installing it on the ground floor of the university’s administrative building, taking measures to alleviate the suffering of patient attendants, creating a free environment for training including necessary training for electrical, mechanical service providers, postgraduate doctors, clinical and nursing, ensuring a soft cadaver-based simulation lab system for skill development, etc.During the submission of the memorandum, Dr. Md.
