State Minister for Food Abdul Bari has said that the government has taken a plan to distribute rice at Tk 15 per kg to ensure food security for the poorest of the poor. He informed this while standing in the National Parliament on Monday.
The State Minister for Food said that the government is providing food assistance at subsidized prices under various social security programs to alleviate the suffering of low-income people. In continuation of this, an initiative has been taken to distribute rice at Tk 15 per kg for the very poor and helpless people.
He further said that rice sales at low prices are already underway in different parts of the country through OMS (Open Market Sale) and other programs. If this new initiative is implemented, the number of beneficiaries will increase further and food security will be strengthened.
He mentioned in the parliament that the government is committed to implementing a pro-poor policy. Such activities will continue to keep the prices of daily necessities stable in the market and ensure food supply within the purchasing power of the common people.
According to sources in the Food Ministry, the list of beneficiaries and the distribution method will be determined soon under this program. This program will be implemented step by step across the country under the supervision of the relevant authorities.
