Hasmat Ali Molla, the organizing secretary of the proposed committee of the Barhatta Upazila Awami League in Netrokona and former general secretary of the Upazila Jubo League, and Sijan Molla, the youngest member of the convening committee of the Barhatta Upazila Chhatra League, are in prison.

When he applied for bail at the Barhatta Administrative Court in Netrakona on Monday morning (April 6), learned Judicial Magistrate Sanjana Haque ordered him to be sent to prison.

Advocate Md. Mozahid Hossain, the lawyer for the accused, said – After the political change in the country on August 5, 2024, Hasmat Ali Molla and his nephew Sizan Molla were accused and made defendants in a case filed at Barhatta Police Station on August 8 on charges of sabotage. But they were not at the scene at the time or on the day of the incident. Nevertheless, out of respect and honor for the law, they surrendered to the Barhatta Magistrate’s Court in Netrokona on Monday morning and sought bail, but the state’s lawyer opposed it. Later, after the arguments of the lawyers of both sides, learned Judicial Magistrate Sanjana Haque ordered Hasmat Ali Molla and Sizan Molla to be sent to jail.

He further said that Hasmat Ali Molla is a heart patient and diabetic, and his nephew Sijan Molla is a juvenile, and they were expected to be granted bail on humanitarian grounds.
