Sugar mill workers in Thakurgaon 3-point demand Street meetings and protest marches
In the interest of creating skilled manpower, a protest rally and procession were held at Thakurgaon Sugar Mill demanding internal adjustment of seasonal manpower to permanent positions based on qualifications, creation of skilled manpower through promotions, and immediate payment of 15% (fifteen percent) of special benefits to the workers of the Wage Commission. The protest meeting was held at the Millgate square on Sunday afternoon, organized by the Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Workers' Union. Later, the workers took out a protest procession from there. The hour-long meeting was presided over by Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Sramik Karmachari Union President and Bangladesh Sugar Industry Corporation Sramik Karmachari Federation President Abdul Quddus. Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Sramik Karmachari Union General Secretary Abdullah Al Mahmud Khan Ratan, Deputy General Secretary Ruhul Amin and others spoke during the meeting.
The speakers said that workers need protection to keep the sugar industry alive. Therefore, if these three demands are not met within the next 10 days, they will move towards a larger movement.
