The press conference was held in the Gobindanagar area of the municipal city on Saturday (April 4) afternoon. Members of the affected tribal families read out written statements.
In a written statement, they said that their family has been legally occupying the land for a long time. About 27-28 years ago, a Kali temple was built there and regular worship has been conducted. Later, Shankar Mallick was given the responsibility of the temple’s priest.
However, it is alleged that after assuming the responsibility, he is trying to seize the temple land through various illegal methods in collusion with some people. They also claim that despite the existence of previous records and evidence of inheritance in favor of the ownership of the land, confusion is being created by ignoring it. They are even accused of spreading propaganda against them based on false information.
The press conference also informed that on November 15, 2024, a victim and his sister were injured in an attack by an opponent. A case has been filed with the police station in this incident, which is currently under trial. It was also mentioned that later, another case has been filed in the court as the attempts to seize the land continued.
The victims alleged that they and their family members are being systematically harassed by filing false cases and attempts are being made to seize land. They strongly condemned and protested against such activities.
The speakers present at the press conference demanded that the relevant administration and law enforcement agencies uncover the true facts through a fair investigation and take legal action against the culprits.
