The meeting, chaired by Abul Hashem Asad Master and moderated by Khokon Bhuiyan, Joynal Abedin and Sumon Mohammad Raju, was addressed by former chairman Nesar Uddin, Ranju chairman, Shah Jamal Rana, Jasim Mahmud, Jahangir member, Rustom member, Aziz member, Jibon Kha, Yasin member, Haji Mohiuddin Mukta, Mamun member, Shahriar Alam, Shahin member, Mizanur Rahman Badal and representatives of 16 villages of Basudeb Union.
The speakers said that the initiative to break the nearly 150-year-old traditional Basudeb Union and form a new union with six villages has been taken without the opinion of the local people. If such a decision is implemented, the union residents will face various administrative complications including correction of birth registration, national identity cards and educational certificates.
They also said that considering the long-standing tradition, administrative convenience and public interest, the expectation of the locals is to maintain the Basudeb Union in its previous state without dividing it. At the same time, the speakers urged the applicant Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan to refrain from such initiatives. The rally warned that if decisions are taken ignoring the opinions of the people, strict programs including road and railway blockades will be given in the future.
