Officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station Md. Masum Khan said, Antar was arrested from Jessore Railway Station area around 12:30 am last Tuesday. He is the main accused in a loot case that took place in Shankarpur area. Last week, a person named Wadud Mia’s house was attacked demanding ransom and various items including cash, gold ornaments, television, fridge, motorcycle, car papers and passport were looted. A case has been filed with Kotwali Police Station against 8-10 unidentified people, including three names, in this incident. Earlier, another person named Jisan was arrested in the same case.
Kotwali Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Anisur Rahman Khan said that Emon and Labib were arrested in a raid on the road behind the Shankarpur Electricity Office that same night. At that time, Anik and a few others escaped. A Chinese axe was recovered from the two arrested and two motorcycles abandoned by the Anik group were seized from the scene.
He also said that the process of filing a separate case under the Speedy Trial Act regarding the recovered weapons is underway.

In accordance with government instructions, the Electricity and Energy Saving Monitoring Committee formed by the University’s Board of Regents has launched a program to save electricity and energy at Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) by regularly monitoring various departments, offices, and residential halls, installing banners and distributing leaflets at various important places in the university.
The program was inaugurated on Wednesday (April 1, 2026) at 11 am by handing over a leaflet to the Vice Chancellor of UB, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid. The leaflet was handed over to the Vice Chancellor of UB by the University Treasurer and Convener of the Electricity and Energy Efficiency Monitoring Committee, Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun. Other members of the committee were present at the time.
The university committee members visited various departments of the administrative building to raise awareness about saving electricity and energy. They handed over awareness leaflets to all concerned. Later, this program will continue in every department, even residential ones. The leaflets have given guidelines on what to do to prevent wastage.
University Treasurer and Convener of the Electricity and Energy Saving Monitoring Committee, Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun said, “Our leaflet distribution program has been launched from today. Stand banners have already been installed at important points of the university. We hope that such programs will play an important role in saving electricity and energy in the university. In addition, our monitoring committee will regularly monitor various departments, offices and residential halls.”
The instructions shown on the leaflet are:
01. If there is sufficient natural light in the university during the day, all departments/offices should stop using electric lights and use natural light by keeping windows and doors or blinds open.
02. All departments/offices of the university should use half of the existing electric lighting and avoid using electric lights in excess of the need.
03. All departments/offices must turn off unnecessary fans, air conditioners, and other electrical appliances during office hours.
04. All concerned have been asked to discourage the use of air conditioners in all departments, offices, conference rooms, classrooms and labs of the university, but AC should be used to a limited extent in labs equipped with sophisticated equipment and the temperature of the AC should be kept at 25 degrees Celsius or above at all levels.
05. When leaving the office for any reason, all electrical appliances, including lights and fans, should be turned off.
06. All electrical appliances (lights, fans, computers, printers, scanners, air conditioners, etc.) should be turned off after office hours.
07. The use of less necessary lights in all office corridors, staircases, washrooms, etc. should be stopped.
08. Energy-efficient equipment must be used in all areas of the university.
09. All lighting should be avoided in the university.
10. The use of galleries for events organized by various departments/offices is being discouraged, however, if galleries are used for special needs, AC and electrical appliances should be used to a limited extent.
