An important discussion meeting was held at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Shaheed Dr. Milton Hall on the progress of research by researchers receiving research grants studying in the P.H.D. program at this university. The meeting was presided over by BMU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said, the PhD program is the beacon of BMU. The research of PhD researchers will make an important contribution to the university’s ranking. It is possible to get something from the research of PhD researchers that can be copyrighted, patented, etc. Which will be considered as the own asset of this university and Bangladesh. The results achieved from the research of PhD researchers can be reflected in the national policy-making stage and even at the international level. In that case, the selection of research topics is very important. The number of patients in Bangladesh is more than the total population of many countries in the world. Therefore, the archive of data of all these patients can be an endless treasure trove of research. It is expected that BMU’s research will contribute internationally, including Bangladesh.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader said that the current administration of BMU has taken various steps to strengthen research activities. Necessary funds have been arranged for research and in this regard, all kinds of support are being provided regularly by the university administration.
Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar said, “It is desirable that new topics are discovered through research. The research topics should be selected in such a way that they are useful for patients and the country.”
The meeting also discussed various issues including the progress of research, research funds. It was informed in the meeting that some researchers’ research has already been published in international journals like Scopus Indexed Journal, PubMed Indexed Journal or is in the process of being published. The meeting emphasized on research that is needed for patients and the country, while also emphasizing on maintaining the quality of research and increasing its number. The meeting emphasized on research on new topics instead of selecting any research topic that has been done before. In addition, the issue of organizing PhD colloquiums after a specified period of time was also discussed.
