Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has launched e-IRB. On this occasion, today, Saturday, January 31, 2025, a program titled ‘e-IRB (Electronic Institutional Review Board) in Bangladesh Medical University: Innovating Research Ethics’ was organized at Shaheed Dr. Milton Hall. This paperless and environment-friendly initiative is an important and timely automation step to improve the quality of research and education at BMU. Which will ensure research ethics and make the research process faster, transparent and modern. By launching this digital platform, it will be easier for students, teachers and researchers to conduct research activities and an international standard research environment will be established. Speaking as the chief guest at this important event, BMDC President Professor Dr. Mohammad Saiful Islam said, if any initiative is taken, a worthy legacy must be created to reach the ultimate goal. Research is a fight for survival. Again, the existence of mankind is also linked to this fight. Values ​​must be remembered. And the storehouse of knowledge must be enriched with knowledge that is useful for people and the country. Only then can the acquisition of that knowledge be worthwhile. In the global health sector and biomedical research, 85 percent of the research is not practically beneficial. This situation must be overcome. Because a lot of money is spent on research, and if it is not useful, this fact must also be taken into consideration. In his speech as a special guest, BMRC Chairman Professor Dr. Saeba Akhtar said, there should be accountability in work. Values ​​should always be maintained in life. And to advance the research of a university, everyone involved should give importance to increasing the research capacity. BMU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad said, the current administration of BMU is rapidly advancing automation activities including launching e-lock books, taking initiatives to launch digital classes, online ticketing, making payments. As a result of the launch of e-IRB, tons of paper will no longer be needed. It will contribute to protecting the environment and saving foreign exchange. BMU’s Treasurer, Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, said that e-IRB will play a special role in documenting or preserving research processes and work and ensuring transparency. The program was also addressed by Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Shakur, Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Professor Dr. AKM Akhtaruzzaman, Director of ICT Cell. The program was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Shaheda Anwar, Department of Microbiology and Immunology.  deans, departmental chairmen, and teachers of the university were present at the program. It was informed at the event that the launch of e-IRB will directly benefit students studying in higher medical education in their research activities. In particular, by submitting research proposals online, the approval time will be reduced and decisions will be made quickly, necessary amendments and feedback will be received quickly. There will be no hassle of paperwork and additional administrative costs will be reduced, which will make the process of conducting research more dynamic for students. The standard of research ethics will be strengthened. The possibility of unethical or flawed research will be reduced. E-IRB will bring a revolutionary change in the field of university education and research. Through this, the quality of research will be in line with international standards, transparency and accountability of research will increase, opportunities for publication in international journals will increase, and efficiency and professionalism will be created in research activities. This will inject new momentum into the university research culture. At the same time, since e-IRB is a complete digital system, all research-related documents and approval records can be stored securely. This initiative will make students more capable in research-based education, improved healthcare research for patients, and international cooperation.
