Dr. Md. Yunus Ali, hailing from Kurigram in northern Bangladesh, has been playing an active role in both the medical and political arenas for a long time. He is currently based in Bogura, where he is engaged in both medical practice and political activities.
Dr. Yunus was born on July 13, 1978, in the village of Buterdanga under Nageshwari Upazila of Kurigram district. He is the son of the late Uzir Ali and the late Nasimon. From an early age, he demonstrated intelligence and leadership qualities, which later shaped his journey into both healthcare and politics.
After completing his MBBS degree from Rajshahi Medical College, Dr. Yunus began his medical career. He also completed specialized courses such as CCD, D. Card, and MRCP. In addition, he developed expertise in computer operations, internet browsing, email, hardware troubleshooting, and networking.
Politically, Dr. Yunus has been active since his student life. He has held important positions in the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing), Jubo Dal (youth wing), and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Currently, he is serving as the Senior Joint General Secretary of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), Bogura chapter.
Moreover, he holds the position of President of the Bogura Sadar unit of the Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal. Previously, he served as the Vice President of the Chhatra Dal unit at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, the Health Secretary of the Bogura District Volunteer Wing of BNP, and the Assistant Organizing Secretary of the DAB Rajshahi Division.
Dr. Yunus is also actively involved in social service, alongside his political and medical work. His humanitarian efforts are widely recognized.
Out of personal initiative, he provides free medical services one day a week at a local clinic for underprivileged patients in Nageshwari and Bhurungamari upazilas. Besides consultation, he also provides essential medicines free of charge.
Sharif Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid, the proprietor of Anwara Jahangir Clinic in Bhurungamari, stated, “He has been offering free medical services at our clinic for a long time. We pray for his long life.”
Jahangir Alam, a patient receiving treatment, said, “Despite being a specialist doctor, he treats poor and helpless people for free, which sets a remarkable example for other doctors.”
Dr. Yunus is not only known in his birthplace but also in Bogura, where he is involved in several welfare activities alongside his professional duties. Within BNP and its affiliated organizations, he is widely recognized as a humanitarian nationalist doctor. Though inspired by the ideals of the nationalist party, his commitment to service has earned him respect across political lines in the northern Dharla region.
Locals believe that his continued dedication will play a stronger role in both the healthcare sector and the political landscape of North Bengal in the coming days.
