BMU, Dhaka, 4 December 2025: A newborn baby born extremely prematurely at the NICU of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has left the hospital safely. Born at just 25 weeks, weighing just 765 grams; considered a ‘high-risk’ newborn in the context of Bangladesh. The baby was under the round-the-clock care of the NICU team since admission. With Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), regular feeding, temperature control, and the coordinated efforts of experienced doctors and nurses, the baby gradually recovered. Breathing difficulties decrease, food intake increases, and weight also increases. Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam visited the newborn on Thursday and expressed happiness over the news of his recovery and offered prayers and congratulations to the child’s family. He said, “This success of the NICU team is a shining example in neonatal care in our country. I pray for the baby’s healthy and long life.” BMU NICU Department Chairman Professor Dr. Md.
