The ‘Dashgharia Gram Road’ in Ward No. 1 of Sahebber Hat Union, Kamalnagar Upazila No. 2, Lakshmipur district, has now become a death trap for local residents. A major part of the road has disappeared into the riverbed due to the strong tidal waters of the Meghna River. Currently, there is no minimum environment left to walk.

Talking to local residents, it is known that about 10 to 15 thousand people travel on this important road bordering Saheber Hat Union and Lawrence Union No. 3 every day. Students of educational institutions, terminally ill patients and ordinary people traveling for daily work have to cross at the risk of their lives. Accidents happen due to slight carelessness.

Expressing their anger, local elders said that before the elections, many public representatives (members and chairman) had promised to permanently repair this road and build a sustainable embankment. But after the elections, no one kept their word. Even after years, no permanent solution has been found for the fate of the road. As a result, the road has become completely unusable.

In this regard, the affected people of the border areas of Lawrence Union No. 3 and Saheb Hat Union No. 2 in Kamalnagar have demanded immediate permanent repairs and the introduction of transportation facilities.

When contacted, Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said, “We are looking into the matter seriously. We will soon inspect the area on the ground and monitor the overall condition of the road and take immediate action after talking to higher authorities regarding the necessary budget.”

The affected people have strongly demanded the intervention of the concerned higher authorities as soon as possible to alleviate the suffering and to start permanent renovation work on the road.
