Barendra College is a well-known name for tradition, discipline and reputation in the educational field of Rajshahi. Established in 1985, this educational institution has been playing a role in the expansion of education and shaping the future of students for a long time. The college, which has been established in a pleasant environment, disciplined educational programs and a learning-friendly atmosphere, currently has about two thousand students. However, since the institution has not come under nationalization even after a long journey, this demand is gaining importance among teachers, students and concerned people.

Barendra College started its journey at Malanchi House with about 200 students at the time of its establishment. The institution was established with the efforts of former State Minister for Land Advocate Kabir Hossain, Advocate Kamrul Monir, Advocate Nazrul Huda, Aslam Sarkar, then Acting Principal Md. Muraduzzaman and Principal Anil Kumar Saha and other concerned persons.
After its establishment, the college has created its own position by overcoming various adversities. Over time, the number of students and the demand for education have increased. Along with this, the need for modern infrastructure, technology-based teaching and ensuring quality education has also increased.
Expectations of modern education with tradition: In addition to maintaining the tradition of Barendra College, it is necessary to emphasize improving the quality of education, providing a rich library, modern science laboratory, information technology-based education, and expanding opportunities for students to develop their skills.
Sources said that the current principal and teachers are making efforts to make the college more modern and up-to-date. If their expectations, necessary facilities and institutional support are ensured, it will be possible to play a more effective role in improving the quality of education.
The college’s pleasant environment and well-organized educational programs are also among its features. By utilizing this environment, students have the opportunity to take further initiatives to develop their academic knowledge, creativity, ethics, and social values.
College land and development potential: It is known that, through the efforts of the then State Minister for Land, late Advocate Kabir Hossain, during the government of former Prime Minister, late Begum Khaleda Zia, approximately 28 acres of land was allocated for the college at a price of one taka.
Recently, Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, announced to develop the college as an international standard educational institution, according to sources concerned. This announcement has created new expectations about the development and future prospects of the college.
According to those concerned, to build an international-standard educational institution, skilled teachers, advanced educational materials, technology-based teaching, and effective plans to enhance student skills are needed, along with modern infrastructure.
Expectations for a quick decision: The issue of nationalization will be reviewed seriously, taking into account the expectations of the teachers, students and stakeholders of Barendra College, the institution’s long-standing contribution, current educational activities and future prospects. According to them, long-term planning, adequate facilities and effective administrative support are needed to further enrich this traditional educational institution. In this regard, the coordinated efforts of teachers, students, guardians, alumni and concerned authorities can play an important role.
The big expectation now is to transform the institution into a modern, quality and student-friendly educational institution while maintaining the tradition and position of Barendra College in the educational arena of Rajshahi. Those associated with the college are optimistic that the concerned authorities will consider the demand for nationalization through necessary scrutiny and policy evaluation.
