An important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) and North South University (NSU) on Monday November 10, 2025, to advance joint research and development activities, including the use of AI technology. This MoU will greatly contribute to improved medical services and research activities through the use of advanced technology and AI. This agreement will play a role in various areas including ensuring accuracy in disease diagnosis, exchanging knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence, getting academic and technical support in creating and implementing AI models, and constantly innovating in disease diagnosis. Today’s great initiative will especially contribute to accurate cancer diagnosis and improved treatment. The MoU was signed on behalf of BMU by Vice-Chancellor of BMU, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam. The MoU was signed on behalf of North South University by Vice-Chancellor of the said university, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, PhD. Also, on behalf of BMU, former Dean of Basic Science and Paraclinical Science, Professor Dr. Shirin Tarafdar, Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology, Professor Dr. Syed Akram Hossain, and Dean of North South University, Professor Dr. Sajjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Mohammad Monir Uddin signed the MoU. At this important event, the Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) of BMU, Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, presented a paper on the topic of ‘Bangladesh Medical University: Advancing Medical Education, Research and Healthcare Partnerships’. Professor Mohammad Monir Uddin, Professor of North South University, presented a paper on ‘Advanced Research on Biomedical Data for Precision Diagnosis Applying Multimodal-AI’. BMU Registrar Professor Dr. Moderated by Md. Nazrul Islam, the esteemed Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, and NSU Professor Deepak Kumar Mitra spoke.
Vice-Chancellor of BMU, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said, the current administration of Bangladesh Medical University is making every effort to advance medical services, research and education programs in line with the developed world. In this era of advanced technology, the entire health sector, including medical science, must also be advanced in the same way. To achieve that goal, it is necessary to start working in joint ventures with various renowned institutions in the country and abroad. Today’s MoU is a real reflection of such an initiative. The main goal of which is to provide the most modern medical services to patients as well as to advance advanced research and quality education programs.
Vice Chancellor of North South University, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, PhD, said, “Medical science has advanced unimaginably in the world. It is making a great contribution to the provision of advanced medical services, starting from accurate diagnosis of diseases through new advanced technologies and innovations. This MoU between BMU and NSU will be marked as a milestone in providing the latest medical services and joint research, including accurate diagnosis.”
