Allegations have emerged that officials of the Department of Narcotics Control were assaulted and detained while conducting an anti-drug operation in Dhamoirhat upazila of Naogaon district. A man named Bikash has been accused in connection with the incident. The situation was brought under control following the intervention of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kazi Tahmina Sarmin.
According to the allegations, Bikash gathered local people and created a chaotic situation during the operation. During the incident, Inspector Abdus Sattar of the Department of Narcotics Control and other officials involved in the operation were allegedly assaulted and held against their will. After receiving the information, UNO Kazi Tahmina Sarmin went to the scene and rescued the officials.
Later, Bikash and his wife, Saraswati, were taken to the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, where they were questioned. According to sources concerned, they were subsequently taken home after lunch.
Sources further claimed that Bikash and his wife later went to Naogaon Sadar Hospital and were admitted there in an attempt to implicate officials of the Department of Narcotics Control. However, the sources said that no serious physical problems were found in either of them.
Attempts were made to contact UNO Kazi Tahmina Sarmin by mobile phone for her comments on the incident, but her phone was switched off, making it impossible to obtain her statement.
Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, said Bikash attempted to create confusion by identifying himself as Subhash. He also alleged that officials of the department had demanded money from him, a claim that Alamgir Hossain denied as unfounded.
Alamgir Hossain further said that the allegations were made with the intention of harassing the officials and gaining local public support. However, he added that if specific evidence is found that any officer or employee of the Department of Narcotics Control demanded money from anyone, administrative action would be taken against the individual concerned.
Meanwhile, an investigation reportedly found records of four drug-related cases against Bikash in Naogaon and Bogura districts. Among the cases, one was filed at a police station in Bogura district on September 18, 2024, with G.R. Case No. 268/2024.
In addition, records were cited for a G.R. case filed at Dhamoirhat Police Station in Naogaon on October 29, 2024, numbered 108/2024; an FIR dated December 4, 2024, at the same police station, bearing FIR No. 09 and G.R. Case No. 826/2024; and another case dated June 27, 2026, bearing FIR No. 42 and G.R. Case No. 226/2026. The latest case record reportedly refers to Section 25B(2) of the Special Powers Act, 1974.
However, comments from the accused, Bikash, and his wife, Saraswati, could not be obtained regarding the incident. Their statements will be incorporated into the report if they become available.
