A human chain program has been held demanding the construction of a bridge over the Jamuna River from Balashighat in Gaibandha to Bahadurabad Ghat in Jamalpur.
A two-hour human chain was held in front of Ganasas Market in Gaibandha district town on Saturday (October 3) morning, organized by the people of North Bengal.
People from different walks of life, including teachers, students, businessmen, and journalists, including father Sadeq Ali Sardar and son Mostafizur Rahman, who traveled the country on foot to demand the bridge, participated in the human chain.
Mostafizur Rahman, who traveled the country on foot demanding the bridge, Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce Director Dipankar Saha Bappa, District Workers’ Party General Secretary Hunan Haqqani, Atanu Saha, Zahid Hasan Jiban and others spoke at the event.
Speakers at the human chain said that the Balashi-Bahadurabad Bridge is very important in establishing direct connectivity between Gaibandha and the districts of North Bengal, including the capital Dhaka, and the districts across the Jamuna River.
If the bridge is built, not only will the transportation system be easier, but it will also facilitate the transportation of agricultural products from the north, giving a new impetus to the economy of the region.
They expressed their anger over the fact that the bridge has not been built even though every government has promised to implement it for a long time.
The speakers demanded that the work of constructing the bridge from Balashighat to Bahadurabad Ghat be started immediately. The human chain warned of more stringent actions in the future if the demand was not met.
