Three individuals from a third party were injured in an attack by an opposing group in Gopalpur village, Kotalipara, Gopalganj, after they objected to a heated verbal altercation and the use of abusive language between two other factions. The incident occurred on Tuesday night. Locals rescued the injured and took them to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex; while Mahmud and Akbar Shikdar returned home after receiving first aid, the seriously injured Badal Shikdar (47) was admitted for treatment. Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Badal Shikdar explained that a rural electrification pole had been installed on the site of Mahmud Shikdar’s bathroom near the Gopalpur Bridge. A dispute regarding this matter arose around 9 PM the previous night near Nazrul’s shop, involving a verbal altercation and the use of abusive language between Mahmud Shikdar and Palash Shikdar (brother of Labu Shikdar). Badal stated that when he asked Palash Shikdar to stop the verbal abuse, Labu Shikdar, Palash Shikdar, Shahidul Shikdar, and Alamin Shikdar attacked and injured them. Locals subsequently took them to the Upazila Health Complex. Following the incident, Badal Shikdar’s sister, Sabikunnahar, filed a formal complaint at the Kotalipara Police Station, naming four individuals as the accused. In her complaint, Sabikunnahar alleged that the accused indiscriminately beat her brother Badal Shikdar, as well as Mahmud Shikdar and Akbar Shikdar, causing swelling and injuries across their bodies; she further claimed that they snatched 120,000 Taka in cash, two mobile phones, a wallet, and vehicle documents from Badal Shikdar. When asked about the allegations, Palash Shikdar claimed, “They took 6 to 7 lakh Taka from us and also assaulted us.”  The injured Badal Shikdar is the son of Moslem Uddin Shikdar from Gopalpur village.

ASI Alauddin Hasan, the duty officer at Kotalipara Police Station, stated that a complaint regarding the incident has been received from Badal Shikdar’s sister, Sabikunnahar. The complaint will be presented to the Officer-in-Charge (OC).
