A young man was brutally killed by having his throat slit in Bogura city. The deceased, Rakibul Hasan Bokul, 38, was known in the city as a top criminal. Police said five cases had been filed against him, including cases under the Arms Act and allegations involving drugs and violence against women. The killing is suspected to have stemmed from a marital dispute. Law enforcement agencies have detained two women in connection with the incident.
Police recovered the body from the area near Jhopgari Government Primary School in the city on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased, Rakibul Hasan Bokul, was the son of Abdul Gani Mia of Nishindara Uttarpara in Bogura. The body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The two detained women were identified as the deceased’s wife, Parveen Akter, and mother-in-law, Buli Begum. They are being questioned in police custody.
According to local sources, Bokul and Parveen Akter had been married for around 17 years. They had reportedly been experiencing marital discord since their marriage. Parveen was allegedly unhappy with her husband over his involvement in criminal activities. Local sources also alleged that Bokul was involved in illegal arms and drug trading from his residence.
In 2024, Parveen filed a case against Bokul with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal. Following the case, tensions between Bokul and his in-laws reportedly intensified. Their marital dispute had reportedly reached the point of possible divorce.
Police and local residents said Bokul went to his in-laws’ house on Wednesday afternoon to meet his wife, Parveen. An argument reportedly broke out between them. At one point, Bokul was allegedly attacked and injured with sharp weapons by members of his in-laws’ family. Bokul’s relatives alleged that he was subsequently killed by having his throat slit. The allegations are being investigated by police.
Officials said there was an attempt to attack police personnel while the two suspects were being detained. Members of Special Response Battalion-12 (SRB), Bogura, brought the situation under control. Squadron Commander (Assistant Superintendent of Police) Nasir Uddin confirmed the incident.
