The Coast Guard has seized a large amount of cement, tar, soft drinks and pharmaceuticals while smuggling Bangladeshi goods in exchange for drugs from Myanmar. This information was given by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq on the night of Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He said, based on secret information, it is known that an unscrupulous gang will smuggle Yaba, alcohol and other narcotics from Myanmar to Bangladesh in exchange for Bangladeshi products. Based on the information received, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 5 pm, a special operation was conducted by the Coast Guard Station Cox’s Bazar in the salt marsh adjacent to Baradia under Maheshkhali Sadar Police Station. During the operation, a search was conducted in the salt marsh of the said area and 500 bags of cement worth about 1.365 lakh taka, 23,088 pieces of energy drinks, 284 gallons of tar, 500 bottles of Geo Vita syrup and 135 kg of nylon yarn were seized for the purpose of smuggling to Myanmar illegally by evading customs and taxes. At that time, it was not possible to arrest anyone as the smugglers fled after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard. Further legal action on the seized goods is under process. He also said that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to prevent smuggling.
