SRB has arrested a man named Akhtarul Islam (40) on charges of raping a 7-year-old child in Mithapukur, Rangpur, after he allegedly asked to show her pictures on a mobile phone. He was arrested from Halishahar, Chittagong, during a raid on the afternoon of September 19. The arrested Akhtarul Islam is the son of Atowar Rahman of Bhangni Kagojipara village under Mithapukur police station.
According to the case report, the victim, a 7-year-old girl, studies in a local Maktab and the arrested accused is the victim’s neighbor. On August 13, 2026, at approximately 3:05 p.m., the arrested accused took the girl to his residence after offering various temptations and showing her pictures on his mobile phone and forcibly raped her. In this incident, the father of the child filed a rape case with Mithapukur Police Station, Rangpur on August 22, 2026 (Case No. 45/384).
Considering the importance of the case, RAB-13 intensified intelligence surveillance to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, based on specific intelligence information, a joint operation team of SRB-13, Sadar Company, Rangpur and SRB-7, CPSC, Chittagong conducted a raid on the 2nd floor of a rented house of one Haji Selim Member in Ward No. 38, Ward No. 38 under Halishahar Police Station of Chittagong Metropolitan City at 3:05 PM on September 19, 2026 and arrested the main accused in the rape case, Akhtarul Islam.
The arrested accused has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
