Lamia Khanam (26) went to switch on a table fan in her room to escape the intense heat. However, the moment she touched the switch, she suffered an electric shock and instantly collapsed onto the floor. Although her relatives rushed her to the hospital, she could not be saved. This tragic incident occurred on Friday (September 18) afternoon in Uttar Hiron village, Kotalipara, Gopalganj. Lamia Khanam was the wife of Humayun Khan of Uttar Hiron village.
According to the family, around 12:00 PM, Lamia went to turn on the table fan, which was connected to a multi-plug, inside her home. She suddenly suffered an electric shock and fell to the floor. Family members quickly rushed her to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead after an examination.
Lamia’s sudden death cast an immediate shadow of grief over the family. The atmosphere became heavy with the wailing of relatives mourning the loss of their loved one in the very room where daily household activities had been proceeding normally just moments before.
Sukumar Kundu, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kotalipara Police Station, stated that the hospital’s emergency department informed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) about the incident. Upon receiving the news, the police promptly went to the hospital but learned that the family had already taken the body home. No formal complaint has been filed regarding the incident so far.
He added that the police are looking into the matter.
Lamia is survived by two daughters; her sudden death has left her family, relatives, and the local community in deep mourning.
