A five-year-old child named Ayesha Khanam has died after drowning in the waters of a fish enclosure in Kotalipara, Gopalganj.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (September 16) afternoon in Bahirshimul village of the upazila. Ayesha Khanam was the daughter of Taijul Shikdar from Bahirshimul village. The child’s uncle, Likhan Shikdar, recounted that while he was bathing in the enclosure’s water in the afternoon, his foot brushed against something submerged; upon lifting it out of the water, he discovered his niece, Ayesha. She was immediately rushed to the Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead. Sub-Inspector Subir Kumar Saha of Kotalipara Police Station stated that the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy, following their formal request. A case regarding an unnatural death has been filed at the Kotalipara Police Station. Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended upon the family following Ayesha Khanam’s death.
