Police have arrested a leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP) named Sadia Akhtar (22) on charges of taking money from some people by promising to provide them with government family cards in Netrakona.
Netrokona Model Police Station arrested him from the Kurpar area of the district town on Tuesday (September 8) evening.
The arrested Sadia Akhter is the daughter of Saiful Islam of Tentulia village in Madanpur union of Netrokona Sadar upazila. She is reportedly serving as the organizing secretary of the Netrokona district committee of NCP.
According to local people and police sources, Sadia Akhter allegedly took Tk 3,000 from each of them by promising to provide family cards to some people in Kurpar area under the current government’s program. Later, when locals became suspicious about the matter, they arrested Sadia and informed the police. On receiving the information, Netrokona Model Police Station went to the spot and arrested her and took her to the police station.
According to initial police information, allegations have been received that five people were charged 3,000 taka each, for a total of 15,000 taka, on the pretext of providing family cards.
The police said that further action will be taken after verifying the complaint.
In this regard, Netrokona NCP member secretary Fahim Rahman Khan Pathan said that he is not yet fully aware of the matter. However, if someone commits such a crime, the organization will not take responsibility for it; it is the personal responsibility of that person.
He further said that if Sadia Akhter is really involved in this crime, then organizational and legal action should and will be taken against her.
In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Swajal Kumar Sarkar, quoting local people, said that Sadia Akhter allegedly took a total of 15,000 taka from five people on the pretext of giving them family cards.
He said the police are investigating the matter. If any complaint is received later, necessary legal action will be taken based on the complaint.
