A discussion meeting was held in Kotalipara, Gopalganj, on the occasion of International Literacy Day with the theme “Literacy for People, Earth and Prosperity”.
The discussion meeting was organized by the Upazila Administration and Upazila Non-Formal Education Bureau at 10:30 am on Monday (September 8) at the Lal Shapla meeting room of the Upazila Parishad.
The meeting was presided over by Kotalipara Upazila Executive Officer Saif-ul-Arefin. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer SM Shahjahan Siraj, Upazila Muktijoddha Command Convener Abul Kalam Azad, Upazila BNP President SM Mohiuddin, General Secretary Abul Basar Howlader, Municipal BNP President Yusuf Ali Daria, General Secretary Waliur Rahman Howlader,
Assistant Education Officer Himanshu Biswas, Teachers Suresh Chandra Das, Anil Chandra Roy, etc.
In his speech as the president, Upazila Executive Officer Saif-ul-Arefin said, “Literacy is not limited to just acquiring literacy; it is one of the main tools for improving the quality of life of people, increasing awareness and achieving self-reliance. Only an educated and aware population can build a prosperous society and a developed state.”
He said, “We all have to play a responsible role in ensuring that no person in the society is deprived of the light of education. Especially, those who have fallen behind in the opportunities of formal education due to various reasons, need government initiatives along with social awareness and collective efforts to bring them under the ambit of literacy.”
The speakers said that it is important to ensure the quality of education along with increasing the literacy rate. A literate person not only enlightens his own life, but also plays an important role in the development of his family and society.
At the discussion meeting, the speakers emphasized on taking effective initiatives to bring back the dropout students and illiterate people in Kotalipara to the mainstream of education.
Teachers of various secondary and primary schools of the upazila, officials and employees of various departments of the upazila administration and other concerned persons were present at the time.
