A BNP leader has filed a written complaint with the police station in Gaibandha’s Fulchhari, naming six people for allegedly posting insults and caricatures of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on social media Facebook.
An unknown number of 10 to 12 other people have been charged in the complaint.

Mahmudul Hasan, joint general secretary of Erendabari Union BNP in the upazila, filed the complaint with Fulchhari Police Station on Saturday (September 5) evening.

The names mentioned in the complaint are Badsha Molla (50) of Tin Thopa village in Erendabari union, Badsha Molla’s son Sumon Molla (25), Zahid Hasan Nayan (28), son of Almas Pramanik of Harichandi village, Fazle Rabbi (25), son of Manta Mia of Sannyasi Char, SM Rafiqul Islam (55), son of the deceased Rashid Sarkar of Jigabari Char, and Shafiqul Islam alias Shafi (42), son of the deceased Nurul Islam of Algar Char.

In the written complaint, Mahmudul Hasan mentioned that the accused have published various caricatures and circulated derogatory statements about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Facebook. These posts have been used to spread misleading and defamatory propaganda.

The incident has caused anger among local BNP leaders and activists.

Fulchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Esraqul Islam confirmed the receipt of the complaint and said that the complaint is being investigated.
