The farewell reception of Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, Treasurer of Bangladesh Medical University and Professor of the Department of Phytomaternal Medicine of this university was held. Today, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Shaheed Dr. Milton Hall of Bangladesh Medical University, this farewell reception was organized by the university. With the approval of the President and the Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar was appointed as the Treasurer of this university on September 1, 2024. He was born on August 28, 1961. Accordingly, this reception was organized as he will retire (PRL) from a long service life on August 28, 2026. The chief guest at the event was BMU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui. At the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said, Phytomaternal Medicine Specialist and Honorary Treasurer of the University, Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, has performed her duties with great honesty, sincerity, trustworthiness and efficiency. After the fall of the previous fascist government, she has successfully performed her duties during a difficult time for Bangladesh Medical University. She has brought the financial affairs of the university to a disciplined level. She has made special contributions to the medical services and medical education sectors of the country, including Bangladesh Medical University. Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar said, “In my 37 years of career, including 23 years at Bangladesh Medical University, I have tried to arrive at the office on time and leave at the right time. I took charge as Treasurer at Bangladesh Medical University on September 1, 2024. Since the main responsibility of the Treasurer is related to financial matters, I have had to face some difficulties at times. I have tried to fulfill my responsibilities according to the financial rules and regulations and laws. I have tried to restore the rights of those who were deprived of their rights in various ways in the past of this university. I have always received the necessary support from the Finance and Accounts Office and the Audit Office during my tenure. I have been able to bring the fragile and irregular financial matters that were full of irregularities at the beginning of my tenure to a disciplined level. If everyone is united and through concerted efforts, many difficult issues can be resolved.” Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam said that Honorable Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar always spoke clearly. Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar obtained his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1985. A former student of BAF Shaheen School and Holy Cross College, Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar obtained his DGO degree in 1995 and FCPS degree from BCPS in 1998 under Dhaka University. He started his career as a physician in 1987. He started his teaching career in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Bangladesh Medical University as an Assistant Professor in 2003. He served as an Associate Professor in 2006 and as a Professor in the Department of Phytomaternal Medicine Wing of this university in 2015. Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar served as the Departmental Head and Chairman of the said department from 2020 to 2023. This talented teacher has about fifty publications at the national and international levels. He has served as a guide in research activities at different times and has presented papers at various conferences at the national and international levels. Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar is a life member of BCPS, Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
