A newborn baby faced a cruel reality soon after seeing the light of day. The baby was stuffed in a plastic bag and left in a secluded place immediately after birth. The umbilical cord had not yet been cut. There were numerous ants all over his body. Hearing the sound of crying, locals came forward and rescued the baby alive.
On Monday (August 24), around 3:30 pm, the newborn baby kept in a plastic bag was rescued from behind Fazlu’s shop in front of the fire service unit in Sonakhali village of Bamna upazila of Barguna, next to a coconut tree.
According to local sources, shopkeeper Babul heard the baby crying inside the bag from behind Fazlu’s shop. He informed the matter to local youth Tarif Hawlader. Tarif went to the spot and heard the baby crying inside the bag and informed the matter to Kamruzzaman, who is working in the fire service.
Later, Kamruzzaman went to the spot with the locals and found a living newborn inside the bag. Tarif Hawlader opened the bag and took the baby out and picked it up in his arms. At that time, it was seen that the baby’s umbilical cord had not yet been cut and was connected to the umbilical cord. At the time of the rescue, the baby had numerous ants all over its body.
Later, the baby was quickly taken to the Bamna Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty there cut the baby’s umbilical cord and gave the necessary first aid. The doctor said that the baby is fairly healthy. After the treatment, the baby was not admitted to the hospital. The baby is currently in the custody of the rescuer Tarif Hawlader.
Tarif Hawlader said that he was very distressed to see the baby in this condition. He wants to raise the baby with affection and compassion like his own sister.
Meanwhile, the incident of leaving a newborn baby in a bag like this has created intense anger and excitement among the locals. It is truly heartbreaking to abandon a baby who is supposed to receive the warmth of the mother’s chest, safe shelter and love after coming into the world.
Locals demand that immediate and effective steps be taken to identify the child and trace his birth parents. They have also called on the concerned administration and humanitarians of Barguna district to come forward to ensure the child’s future safety, care and legal guardianship.
No information was immediately available about who left the child in the bag. A coordinated effort by the administration, social services department and humanitarian organizations is now necessary to ensure that the life of this newborn, who was found in an unsafe condition, does not fall into neglect or uncertainty.
