The body of a school student named Dipu Sarkar (17) has been recovered two days after he went missing while bathing in the Meghna River in Raipura. His body was recovered from a brick kiln adjacent to the Monipura Ghat in the upazila on Monday morning. Last Saturday (July 18) at around 12:30 pm, he went to bathe in the Meghna River at the Monipura Ghat with three teenagers of the same age. At one point, he was swept away by the strong current of the river and went missing. When the other teenagers who were with him informed the locals about the matter, they informed the fire service. Upon receiving the information, the diving team of the fire service of the neighboring Bhairab Upazila conducted a rescue operation from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. After searching for a long time, they declared the operation over and returned. Dipu Sarkar is the son of Hannan Sarkar of Dairepar area of Chandekandi union of Raipura upazila. He is a class 10 student of the local Alhera Ideal Academy. According to local sources, Dipu had come to visit his maternal uncle’s village of Mamudpur in Haimara union of the upazila. Then on Monday morning, locals saw a body floating near a brick kiln adjacent to Monipura Ghat and informed the police. Upon receiving the information, the police and relatives went to the spot and identified the body as Dipu Sarkar. The officer-in-charge of Raipura police station said that the body of the school student was handed over to his family.
