District administration takes initiative to build a permanent cultural center for Nazrul practice, announces to bring Prime Minister for full inauguration
Nazrul Village’ has started its journey in Rajshahi on the occasion of ‘Nazrul Barsho’ declared in memory of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu inaugurated this cultural complex, built at the initiative of the Rajshahi district administration with the aim of spreading the practice of Nazrul’s literature, music, drama and humanistic philosophy among the new generation.
The Land Minister formally inaugurated ‘Nazrul Village’ by unveiling a plaque at a function held opposite the Rajshahi Central Botanical Garden and Zoo at 11 am on Saturday (July 18). A special prayer was held after the inauguration. Later, he planted a tree as a symbol of environmental conservation and greening.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu said that once the construction of ‘Nazrul Village’ is completed, it will be inaugurated in a grand ceremony by inviting the Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman to Rajshahi. He said that this initiative will play an important role in conveying the ideals and creative spirit of the national poet to the new generation.
The overall plan of the project was presented at the program held under the chairmanship of Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam. The Deputy Commissioner said that ‘Nazrul Village’ is not just an establishment; it will be a permanent open center for literature, music, drama, recitation and cultural practices, where people of all ages will have the opportunity to participate.
He said that the main attraction of the project will be a modern ‘Nazrul Mancha’ and a rich Nazrul Corner. Regular poetry recitations, dramas, folk songs, musical performances, literary discussions, reading circles and various cultural events will be held here.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that no multi-storey buildings will be constructed in the project area. A tree-lined cultural complex will be built in a completely open and eco-friendly design, where artists, students, researchers and culture lovers will be able to conduct creative activities in a natural environment.
According to the plan, various cultural organizations, educational institutions and social organizations will be able to use this premises by following the prescribed policies. In addition, initiatives have been taken to implement continuous cultural programs according to the ‘Nazrul Calendar’ throughout the year.
According to district administration sources, the project will be implemented in phases. In the initial phase, about 25 lakh taka has been collected from various sources. Of this, an estimated 10 to 12 lakh taka will be spent on the construction of ‘Nazrul Mancha’. There are plans to complete the construction work quickly in order to organize the cultural programs scheduled for next month in this premises.
The event was attended by senior officials at the district and divisional levels, local political figures, educationists, cultural activists, representatives of the legal community, and leaders of various cultural organizations.
The guests said, ‘Nazrul Village’ is not just an infrastructure, it is a timely initiative to convey the non-communal spirit, human values and cultural heritage of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to the new generation. They expect that if the project is fully implemented, it will open a new horizon in the cultural sphere of Rajshahi and it will be established as one of the most important cultural centers of the country.
