The traditional Rath Yatra, one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community, has begun in Rajshahi on the occasion of the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton inaugurated two separate Rath Yatras on Thursday afternoon. A colorful procession was taken out in the city on the occasion of the Rath Yatra. The procession circled various roads of the city.
The Rath Yatra was initiated by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Rajshahi from in front of the Reshampatti Sri Sri Digambar Jain Thakur Temple. The Rath Yatra was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Rasik Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton. During the inauguration, he extended his heartfelt greetings to all those present on the occasion of the Rath Yatra.
ISKCON Rajshahi President Rameshwar Gaur Das Brahmachari, along with ISKCON leaders and devotees, were present at the event.
The Rath Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath organized by Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Font Rajshahi Metropolitan at Saheb Bazar Zero Point was inaugurated by RASIK Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.
During the inauguration, RASIK Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said, “Bangladesh is a unique example of communal harmony. We believe that everyone will practice their religion without hindrance, and everyone will build a non-communal, peaceful and humane society with the bonds of mutual respect, tolerance and harmony.”
He further said, “Our commitment is to work for the welfare and development of every citizen of Rajshahi metropolis, regardless of religion, caste and community. Through the collective efforts of all, through harmony, brotherhood and mutual cooperation, we want to build a clean, modern and livable Rajshahi.”
At that time, Rajshahi District Council Chairman, freedom fighter Adv. Ershad Ali Isha, former mayor of RASIK Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front Rajshahi Metropolitan President Achintya Kumar Biswas, General Secretary Miltu Kumar Sarkar, Treasurer Ashok Kumar Saha and other leaders, metropolitan and police station BNP leaders and devotees were present.
It is worth noting that every year this Rath Yatra begins on the second day of the Shukla Paksha of the lunar month of Ashadh. The Ulto Rath Yatra is held 9 days after this. This year’s Ulto Rath Yatra will be held on July 24.
