Four children have died after drowning while bathing in the river in Raipura, Narsingdi. The incident took place in the Kakon river in Barakanda area of Chanderkandi union of the upazila on Thursday (July 16) afternoon.
The deceased children are Tabia (13), daughter of Shamim Mia of Barakanda village, Jannat Islam (9), daughter of Rubel Mia of the same area, Asheya (9), daughter of Rubel Mia, and Sumaiya (10), daughter of Billal Mia. They are all students of the local Gauchia Noor-e-Madina Mahila Madrasa.
According to family and local sources, 6-7 children from the madrasa went to bathe in the Kanon river in the afternoon. At that time, one of them drowned and while trying to save him, the others drowned in the water. Later, people from the area rushed to the spot and rescued the three children and took them to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead. At that time, two more children were rescued alive and one child is missing. In addition, one of these children died after being taken home.
Raipura Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Dr. Ashrafur Rahman, three people were brought here dead.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mojibur Rahman said that further necessary measures will be taken after discussing with the family.
