A day-long training workshop was held in Kalai, Joypurhat to increase public awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction and what to do to prevent drug addiction.
On Tuesday, July 14 at 10 am, a training workshop titled “Harmful Effects of Drug Addiction and What to Do to Prevent It” was held at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium, organized by the Upazila Administration, Kalai. Kalai Upazila Executive Officer Shamim Ara inaugurated the training workshop. In his inaugural speech, he said that there is no alternative to the joint efforts of families, educational institutions, administration, religious institutions and people from all walks of life to build a drug-free society.
Upazila Food Controller Md. Humayon Ahmed delivered the welcome speech. He highlighted the harmful effects of drugs, especially their negative impact on the lives and education of students. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdullah Al-Mahbub discussed in detail about the Narcotics Control Act, the implementation of the law and the punishment of crimes. Assistant Director of Joypurhat District Narcotics Control Department Shakil Ahmed provided training on the adverse effects of drug addiction on individuals, families, society and the state and what to do to prevent it. Officer-in-Charge of Kalai Police Station – Rafiqul Islam – highlighted the role of the police in implementing the anti-drug law and suppressing crime.
Dr. Nahid Naznin Daisy, Resident Medical Officer of Upazila Health Complex, discussed the physical and mental harm caused to the human body due to drug addiction, health risks and treatment. Kalai Government Women’s College Principal Nazim Uddin, Kalai Model Mosque Khatib and officials from various departments also spoke.
People from different walks of life, including officials and employees of various government departments in the upazila, public representatives, teachers, imams, representatives of civil society, and journalists from local and national media, participated in the training workshop.
In his closing speech after the day-long training, Upazila Executive Officer Shamim Ara called on everyone to create awareness and play an effective role from their respective positions in building a drug-free, healthy and safe society.
