State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku, MP, said that Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo was once one of the entertainment centers of the people of Rajshahi. But due to mismanagement and corruption during the previous fascist government, its heritage has been destroyed and its existence is almost on the verge of extinction. Initiatives will be taken to restore it and redecorate it according to the expectations of the people.
He made these remarks after visiting the Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo on Monday morning. Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton was with him at the time. During this time, the State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock toured various facilities inside the Rajshahi Zoo, including various animal cages and rides.
State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said, Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working tirelessly for the welfare of the people of the country. He is already implementing various public welfare programs including distributing family cards and farmer cards, digging canals, countrywide tree plantation programs, waiving agricultural loans, and providing honorarium to imams. The people’s government is doing a lot for the welfare of the people in a short time.
The State Minister further said, “I have come to inspect this traditional zoo of Rajshahi to modernize it and bring it under the Safari Park and develop it anew with Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, and the concerned officials of the Department of Livestock are also with me. An expert team will be sent very soon and the next steps will be taken based on the necessary recommendations.”
The State Minister said that necessary measures will be taken after investigating where the zoo animals have been moved and their current condition.
He also said that initiatives have been taken to establish a modern meat processing center in Rajshahi. Rajshahi City Corporation has identified a possible location for this. The ministry will take necessary steps to create opportunities for safe meat storage and marketing.
Praising the City Corporation Administrator, State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said, “In a short period of time, visible progress has been made in urban development, including cleanliness and waterlogging, under the leadership of City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton. Various developmental activities, including extensive tree plantation, are also underway in Rajshahi.”
During the inspection, Director (Administration) of the Department of Livestock Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman, Director of the National Zoo Dr. Md. Shahinur Alam, Chief Executive Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Md. Rezaul Karim and other senior officials were present.
