The CT scan machine at Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital has been out of order for three months. As a result, patients have to go to an outside diagnostic center or hospital for a CT scan and spend double the amount. This is causing more problems for poor patients. This has put patients and their relatives in extreme distress. The hospital authorities said that they have contacted the supplier to get the machine operational. They hope that the problem will be resolved soon. According to hospital sources, Dhaka’s RP Enterprise supplied the CT scan machine to RMC Hospital in August 2021. Although it has a seven-year warranty, it developed a defect about four and a half years after its commissioning. Since then, the machine has become completely unusable. As a result, patients and their relatives have to suffer from CT scan services. Now, patients have to get their CT scans done at private hospitals or diagnostic centers for an additional fee. Meanwhile, a temporary closure notice has been hung on the door of the CT scan room. Even after almost three months, the machine worth several crores of taka could not be prepared to provide services. The patient’s relative Sanjida Khatun said that the CT scan is being done outside the hospital as the hospital is closed. It would have cost less if it was done in a government hospital, but now it is being paid at least 500 to 700 taka more if you go to a private diagnostic center. Rajab Ali, the relative of Montaz Ali, who was injured in a road accident, said that the doctor asked for a CT scan. But since the hospital’s machine is broken, he has to be taken outside. It is difficult to transfer the patient, and there is also additional cost. Patients from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, as well as from Chuadanga, Alamdanga, Kushtia, Meherpur and other surrounding districts, come to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Their suffering is also increasing as the CT scan service is closed. Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital spokesperson Dr. Shankar K Biswas said that the CT scan machine has broken down due to pressure due to excessive use. The supplier and repair company have been contacted. Efforts are being made to quickly get the machine operational.
