World Environment Day-2026 was celebrated in Narsingdi with the theme ‘Climate Change, Today’s Action, Tomorrow’s Security’. A discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony were organized in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Narsingdi on Thursday morning. Earlier, the day’s program began with a balloon release and a colorful rally. Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Israt Jahan Keya was present as the chief guest at the event. Narsingdi District Superintendent of Police Md. Abdullah-al-Farooq was present as the special guest.
The function was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Former) Abu Taher Mohammad Shamsuzzaman and was attended by Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Asma Jahan Sarkar, Deputy Director of Environment Department Narsingdi District Md. Badrul Huda, President of Narsingdi Press Club Makhon Das, Former President of Narsingdi Chamber of Commerce Momen Mollah, and Dr. Sanjay Saha on behalf of the Civil Surgeon. In addition, officials of various government departments, students of various educational institutions, guardians, representatives of environmental organizations, civil society individuals and journalists were present.
In the discussion meeting, the speakers highlighted the importance of tree plantation in combating the harmful effects of climate change and protecting the environment in the current global context. Emphasizing the elimination of plastic and eco-friendly lifestyle, the speakers said that we need to be aware now to leave a safe and green world for the next generation.
After the discussion meeting, prizes and saplings were distributed among the winning students of the drawing and essay competition organized on the occasion of Environment Day.
