The current season’s government paddy procurement program is about to be successfully completed at the government food warehouses in Tanor Sadar and Kamargaon Union (UP) of Tanor Upazila of Rajshahi.
It is learned that as part of the internal food grain procurement program in Tanore in 2026, 406 metric tons of parboiled rice and 300 metric tons of wheat will be procured from auto and husking mills at a price of Tk 49 per kg and 1,560 metric tons of paddy at a price of Tk 36 per kg. This program will continue till August 31.
Talking to the food warehouse people, it was learned that the paddy was purchased in a completely systematic manner from the actual farmers listed according to the list prepared by the Upazila Agriculture Department. Quality paddy was collected directly from the farmers at the government-set price of Tk 1,440 per maund, where no shopkeeper or trader had access.
Nur Mohammad, the upazila’s ideal and gold medalist farmer, said that this time paddy is being purchased from genuine farmers with transparency. He himself was able to deliver paddy without any hassle this time. Tushar, a farmer from Mohar village in Tanore, said that this time they were able to deliver paddy without any hassle. He said that many farmers from his village were able to deliver paddy directly to the warehouse this time.
The allegations of irregularities that have recently been raised in some quarters regarding the procurement of paddy from the Thadya warehouse in Tanor are completely untrue and misleading, the concerned parties have claimed. In particular, the allegations made against the warehouse officer have no factual basis. He has only performed his regular duties as a government employee and has no involvement in the policy decisions or preparation of the list of paddy purchases.
In this regard, Inspector Mamun of Tano Food Warehouse said, “We have already collected the majority of our target paddy. The entire process is being completed with great transparency. The entire paddy purchase will be completed before August 31. One party is trying to spread completely imaginary and fabricated allegations without any statement or specific evidence from the real farmers, which is intentional.”
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge of Tano Food Warehouse (OCLSD) Afroza Khatun said that Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Naima Khan has clearly stated that according to government rules, there is no opportunity to procure paddy from anyone other than genuine farmers and the administration will strictly monitor the entire process.
In this regard, Upazila Food Control Officer (TCF) Parvin said, there is no scope for any irregularities in the food grain procurement campaign in Tanore. Someone is spreading these rumors without getting any illegal benefits.
