A student named Tanjhuma (8) died after a mud house wall collapsed due to continuous heavy rain in Raipura, Narsingdi. The accident occurred at around 12:30 pm on Wednesday (July 8) in Maijpara area of Morjal Union of the upazila.
The deceased Tanjhuma is the daughter of Apel Mia of Maijpara village and a first-grade student of the local Maijpara Government Primary School.
Local sources said that Tanjhuma returned home after the school holidays in the afternoon. At that time, the wall of an abandoned mud house next to the house suddenly collapsed on her due to continuous heavy rain. She died on the spot. The tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the family. The father of the deceased child is in Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong. Tanjhuma’s burial will be completed when he returns home.
Raipura Upazila Executive Officer Md. Masud Rana said that the child was standing next to the wall of an abandoned mud house after returning home from school. Due to heavy rainfall, the mud wall became wet and soft and collapsed. The child died after being crushed under the mud wall. We are in touch with the family, the upazila administration will provide all possible assistance to the family.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mojibur Rahman said that after receiving the news of the child’s death after being crushed by the wall, we sent police to the spot. Further necessary measures will be taken after discussing with the family.
