The district police have launched a drive against hydraulic horn users to control noise pollution in Brahmanbaria. The drive began within hours of a human chain and memorandum submission program by social organization Dhewu on its 7-point demands.
The organization’s convener, Sohel Ahad, said that a human chain was held in Brahmanbaria city yesterday (Sunday) with a 7-point demand. Later, a memorandum was submitted to the office of the District Superintendent of Police. Within about three hours of submitting the memorandum, the district police started conducting a drive against vehicles using hydraulic horns.
The leaders of Dhewu said, “Out of our 7-point demands, demand number 7 was to prevent noise pollution, ban hydraulic horns, and take effective steps to control noise pollution from battery-powered auto-rickshaws and easy bikes.” We have been working to create public awareness on this issue for a long time. With the quick action of the district police, progress has started towards implementing at least one of our 7-point demands. Brahmanbaria District Police deserves praise for taking such effective steps.
Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Obaidur Rahman told Aminul Islam Ahad, Joint General Secretary of social organization Dheu, that a case has been filed against two buses and two trucks for using hydraulic horns on Sunday afternoon. He added that the drive will continue on Monday and the district police will continue to be active in controlling noise pollution.
The leaders of the organization expressed hope that if regular campaigns are conducted against not only hydraulic horns, but all types of illegal devices that cause noise pollution, the city residents will feel relieved and the environment will also be protected.
