The Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) conducted a raid and arrested two smugglers along with gold worth Tk 7.68 crore, a private car, mobile phones and cash. According to BGB sources, as part of the ‘zero tolerance’ policy against smuggling announced by the Director General, Border Guard Bangladesh, a special operational patrol team of the Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) conducted a raid in front of Gate No. 1 of the battalion on the Jessore-Narail highway on June 20, 2026, based on secret information.
During the raid, a private car was searched and 31 gold bars weighing 3 kg 641 grams were recovered. The market value of the recovered gold is Tk 7.13 crore 45 thousand 395. At that time, two persons were arrested on charges of carrying gold.
Another private car, three mobile phones and cash worth Tk 4,815 were seized from the arrested persons. The value of the seized private car is Tk 5,450,000 and the value of the mobile phones is Tk 36,000.
The bars recovered have been confirmed as pure gold through testing by the Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS). The total market value of the seized goods, including the recovered gold, private car, mobile phone and cash, is Tk 7,68,36,210.
The arrested persons are Khandaker Mahabubul Haque (45), father of deceased Mojibur Rahman, Narail district, and Md. Anis (36), father of Md. Sanu Mia, Jessore district.
During initial interrogation, the arrested persons said that they had planned to collect gold bars from smugglers in Dhaka’s Dholaipar area and smuggle them to India via Jessore via Benapole land port.
The BGB said that the process of handing over the arrested accused and the recovered gold bars and other evidence to the Jessore Kotwali Police Station is underway.
