The district police has taken a tough stance to further strengthen anti-drug activities in Naogaon district. As part of this, a special operation has been conducted in Patnitala upazila under the direction of Superintendent of Police Muhammad Tariqul Islam.
On the night of June 19 and 20, multiple teams of Patnitala Police Station conducted raids in different areas of the upazila. During the raids, 11 people were arrested after raiding two separate hideouts used for drug consumption. Police said that initial evidence of their involvement in drug consumption was found during the raid.
According to police sources, drug use had been going on regularly in these hideouts for a long time and there was concern among the locals about it. The operation was carried out in a planned manner based on secret information. Additional police were deployed to keep the situation under control during the operation.
A mobile court was immediately held against the detainees. The court found them guilty and sentenced them to various terms of imprisonment and fines. They have been sent to the relevant prisons for execution.
The Superintendent of Police said that the district police is working on a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs. Regular operations will be conducted to prevent the spread of drugs from the society and drug dealers and users will not be given any exemption under any circumstances.
Local activists have welcomed this initiative by the police. They believe that if such continuous operations continue, the impact of drugs in the area will be greatly reduced and the young generation will be protected.
