A college student named Mehedi Hasan Rifat (22) died after being hit by a train in Narsingdi. The incident took place on Monday (June 15) afternoon in the railway bridge area adjacent to Baduarchar Gate Bazar in Sadar Sadar Upazila.
The deceased Mehedi Hasan Rifat is the son of Rafiqul Islam of Chandipara village of Nandail police station in Mymensingh district. He is a first-year honors student (Bangla department) of Narsingdi Government College. He was studying in Narsingdi.
Police and eyewitnesses said that Rifat was coming towards the city from Baduarchar Gate Bazar area around 11:30 pm while talking on his mobile phone. At that time, the Chattala Express train coming from Chittagong to Dhaka came from behind and hit him. He died on the spot. Upon receiving the news of the incident, the railway police reached the spot, recovered the body and brought it to the outpost.
In this regard, Dilip Chandra Sarkar, in-charge of Narsingdi Railway Outpost, said, the college student was talking on his mobile phone and was coming towards the city. When he reached the railway bridge area adjacent to Baduarchar Gate Bazar, the Chattala Express train coming from Chittagong to Dhaka from behind hit him.
It is believed that he did not realize that the train was coming from behind him because he was talking on his mobile phone. Since there was no complaint from the family in this regard, the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy.
