BNP leaders and activists have arrested a young man named Mizanur Rahman (24) in Sundarganj, Gaibandha, and handed him over to the police on charges of posting an offensive status on social media Facebook about Home Minister and BNP National Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed MP.

The arrested Mizanur Rahman is the son of Tofazzal Hossain of Dakshin Moruadaha village in Chaparhati union of the upazila. However, locals say that the young man is also known to be somewhat mentally ill.

It is learned that Mizanur Rahman posted an offensive status about Home Minister and BNP National Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed MP from his personal Facebook ID. There, he used a picture of the Home Minister wearing a sari and gave the caption ‘Auntie is eating up banks before coming to power’.
Later, when the post spread on social media, it created anger among local BNP leaders and activists. Local BNP leaders and activists then arrested him and handed him over to the police station.

Sundarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mohammad Amanullah said that local BNP leaders and activists arrested the youth and handed him over to the police. The accused youth is in police custody. An investigation is underway into the matter. Necessary legal action will be taken after the investigation is completed.
