Celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with an environmental awareness rally and tree plantation programme on Thursday, emphasizing environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
The rally began at 11:00 am in front of the university’s Central Library and was organized by the Institute of Environmental Science and Disaster Management. The programme aimed to raise awareness about protecting the environment and addressing the adverse impacts of climate change.
Vice-Chancellor attended the event as the chief guest. The programme was organized under the supervision of the institute’s director, .
Among others present were , , the university proctor, associate student affairs advisors, faculty members, researchers, officers, employees, and students.
Addressing the gathering before the rally, Vice-Chancellor Dr. A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan stressed the importance of maintaining environmental balance. `Protecting the environment is essential for our very existence. If the environment deteriorates, every component of an ecosystem—from the smallest organisms to larger life forms—will face serious threats. Therefore, acquiring proper knowledge about environmental conservation and putting it into practice is the responsibility of every conscious citizen. We must also spread this message among those who are not yet aware of environmental issues,’ he said.
The rally marched through the roads surrounding the Central Library and the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium before concluding at the university helipad area.
Following the rally, Vice-Chancellor Dr. A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan and Student Affairs Advisor Dr. Md Shahidul Haque planted two Nagkesar (Mesua ferrea) saplings as part of the observance, reaffirming the university’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
