It has been decided to stop the long-standing ‘dhalon’ practice in the mango trading of Rajshahi region and from now on, mango trading will be done at the price of kg.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the conference room of the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office on Tuesday. The meeting was presided over by Divisional Commissioner Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid. He said that the administration’s goal is to ensure that mango farmers get a fair price.
It was informed in the meeting that although the price of 40 kg was given so far, in many cases the traders used to buy mangoes from 44 to 54 kg. This used to harm the farmers financially. According to the new decision, mangoes will be bought and sold in kg and a commission of three taka per kg has been fixed for the traders.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Mohammad Habibur Rahman. Speaking at the event were Rajshahi Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammad Shahjahan, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Fayezul Kabir, Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, Naogaon Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, Chapainawabganj Deputy Commissioner Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jangi, Deputy Director of the Rajshahi Division of the Directorate of Agricultural Marketing Shahana Akhtar Jahan, Fruit Research Center Rajshahi Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Shafiqul Islam, Sundarbans Courier Service AGM Mahmudul Alam Swajal. Administrative officers, mango farmers, traders and representatives of the concerned departments of Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore and Chapainawabganj were present at the meeting. Those concerned hope that if the decision is implemented, the long-standing demands of the mango farmers will be fulfilled.
