With the aim of increasing milk and meat production through cattle breed development, an exhibition competition and award distribution ceremony for improved breeds of cows and buffalo calves produced through artificial insemination has been held in Thakurgaon.
The competition and award distribution ceremony was held on Wednesday afternoon at Velarhat Primary School premises in Ruhia Upazila of the district as part of a campaign organized by BRAC Artificial Insemination Enterprise.
Dr. Matiur Rahman, Head Office of BRAC Artificial Insemination Enterprise, presided over the program, while District Livestock Officer Dr. Izhar Ahmed was present as the chief guest. Dr. Amal Kumar Roy, Deputy Director of the District Artificial Insemination Center, and Ahmed Omar Faruk, BRAC District Coordinator, were present as special guests. Dr. Md. Erman Ali, Rangpur Region of BRAC Artificial Insemination Enterprise, moderated the program.
It is worth mentioning that more than a hundred farmers of the region participated in this competition held to improve the quality of livestock of marginal farmers and awards were given to the best 20 farmers using BRAC’s semen at the event. Later, each cow and buffalo were vaccinated against LSD and foot-and-mouth disease. In addition, a play titled “Sukher Khoni” was staged to raise awareness about artificial insemination.
