Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger Mahindra and a truck in Rajshahi’s Mohanpur. Three more were injured in the incident, one of whom is in critical condition.
The accident occurred on the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway in the Kharail Milghar area of the upazila at around 9:45 am on Wednesday (June 10).
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a Rajshahi-bound Mahindra collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in the Kharail Milghar area. The intensity of the collision caused the Mahindra to twist and turn, and the passengers in it were seriously injured.
Kesharhat Islami Bank official Md. Maruf Hossain (37), son of Mohammad Ali of Chak Shyamarai village in Manda upazila of Naogaon district, died on the spot in the accident.
Later, the seriously injured were rescued and taken to Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital, where another person died during treatment. However, the identity of the second deceased was not immediately known.
Upon receiving the information, members of Mohanpur Police Station and Fire Service quickly reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. The body of the deceased Maruf Hossain has been recovered and taken to Mohanpur Police Station.
Officer-in-charge of Mohanpur Police Station SM Moinuddin said that the law and order situation in the area is normal after the accident. Necessary legal measures have been taken in the incident. The OC also said that the police are working to investigate the cause of the accident.
