The district administration and municipal administration have conducted a large-scale mosquito extermination, larval destruction and cleanliness drive in Brahmanbaria to prevent dengue. At the same time, the Deputy Commissioner has assured a quick solution after inspecting the long-discussed Town Canal and the garbage dumping station in Aminpur area of Chhaybaria.
Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Md. Abusaid officially inaugurated the cleanliness and mosquito control campaign in Brahmanbaria Municipality on Saturday morning, June 6. Brahmanbaria Municipality Administrator (Deputy Secretary) Shariful Islam led the implementation of the overall program.
It is learned that to protect public life from the outbreak of dengue, special programs will be conducted every Saturday at each ward of the municipality and the union level of the district to spray medicine and destroy mosquito larvae through fogger machines. As part of the campaign, stagnant water in various areas is removed, garbage is cleaned and mosquito breeding grounds are destroyed.
During the drive, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the traditional Townkhal and Chhaybaria areas’ garbage dumping stations. The issue gained new importance after a long-standing demand from local residents, social and voluntary organizations, as well as a series of reports on the environmental and public health risks posed by the dumping stations in various media outlets, including Boishakhi Television.
After the inspection, Deputy Commissioner Md. Abu Sayeed said that a boundary wall will be constructed at the designated location of the dumping station in the Chhaybaria-Aminpur area. In addition, a proposal will be sent to the government regarding the relocation of the current dumping station elsewhere.
At this time, the administrator urged citizens to keep the courtyard, roof and surroundings of their homes clean regularly. Water should not be allowed to accumulate in flower pots, abandoned tires, coconut shells, or under ACs or refrigerators for more than three days. Emphasis was also placed on the use of mosquito nets day and night to prevent dengue.
